Dietary sources of Vitamin D

Dietary sources of vitamin D take more of an important role during the winter months when exposure to UVB light is limited.

Vitamin D is only stored in the body for 2-3 months which means dietary sources and supplements are important to avoid deficiency. It is estimated over 1/5 of adults and children in the UK are vitamin D deficient.

Dietary reference values for vitamin D are currently under review. For the purpose of health claims, the European Union recommends an intake of 5μg a day.
