Eggs for breakfast enhances weight loss

The typical breakfast usually comprises of a bowl of sugary cereal, piece of toast or a cup of coffee. Breakfast has been transformed by the Kellogg’s revolution and whole foods are very rarely consumed. Eggs are the one exception to this. A food synonymous with breakfast, eggs are considered a complete protein as they include all 8 essential amino acids. They are extremely versatile and a cheaper alternative to meat. As well as an excellent source of protein, eggs are packed with vitamins and minerals and contain no carbohydrate.

A study investigated whether an egg breakfast in addition to a calorie restricted diet (1000 kcal per day), for at least 5 days a week for 8 weeks, resulted in greater weight loss than a calorie matched bagel breakfast with a calorie restricted diet (1000 kcal per day).

The egg breakfast enhanced weight loss but only with the addition of a calorie restricted diet. Therefore, the inclusion of eggs in a weight loss program may enhance weight loss and offers greater health benefits over refined cereals or breads.
